Hello. I found your site by accident but since I play Halo II whenever I can, I registered.
Nice site. Currently a Navy guy out on the front lines of the middle east. Can't speak about this more so don't ask. NCIchiban for those of you that have never been to Japan means NC (Navy Counselor) Ichiban (#1). So for those familiar with the Navy, I am an E-6 or NC1. You want members, I got members for you. I just wanted you guys to know that over 50% of the Navy has played Halo / Halo II and loves it! Why wouldn't we? After all, Master Chief is the highest enlisted rank in our service and only we have them (the Coast Guard doesn't count). The Army has Sergeant Majors, the Marine Corps has Sergeant Majors and Master Gunnery Sergeants, and the Air Force has Chief Master Sergeants. But like the big dickhead in G.I. Jane, we have the Master Chief. So keep on playing and so will we. Even in the desert we manage to connect multiple TV's and XBOX's to play. If we can do it here, you can play anywhere. Have fun and thanks for having me. NCIchiban |

If you remember Golden Eye for the N64, you would know that it was quite a game and revolutionary for being one of the first multiplayer first person shooters. On the ship, it was one of the most popular games, period. However a line of people would want to get in so rules would have to change in order to accomodate this. We set the rules to "one shot kill". Kill count was set at 25. Golden Eye was notorious for spawning you without a weapon. It was also notorious for spawning "screen watchers". I can't count how many times someone would shout "he's in the bathroom" as the other 3 players would proceed up there to be the first to shoot the poor bastard crawling out of an air vent into a commode only to be shot jumping down onto a toilet. With "one shot kill" though, the dying had the ability to get in their "last rights" and chop the killer. Oddjob was banned for being too short. We have since tried to adopt those rules to Halo 2. We turned off shields which turns off recharging health. Only weapons on the board are the fixed turrets, magnums and snipers. No grenades. This changes the whole game. It makes for a very "old west" atmosphere. No radar either. This has worked out pretty well and truly marks the good, the bad and the ugly!! I suggest trying it out. One complaint many of us has had with Halo 2 is the difference of damage of the different weapons. If a shotgun outright kills you with one shot (close up) and the sword does the same, then how come the most powerful weapon in the game doesn't? A direct hit from a rocket launcher should kill outright. If you are in a corner and the rocket blows up there, the concussion and explosion should take you out as well. Anyways, if you have questions about the Navy or USMC, feel free to ask. You have a guy named Medic, but if you knew the Marines you would know that they don't have Medics. They don't have any kind of medical personnel at all. They make use of Navy Hospital Corpsman and Medical Officers. The Marines fall under the Department of the Navy. They have a Commandant of the Marine Corps who is on the Joint Chiefs of Staff, but he answers to the Secretary of the Navy as does our Chief of Naval Operations. Halo and Halo 2 make use of the Marine Corps and the Navy. Having finished both games, the Master Chief is the only enlisted Navy in the entire game. The Officers are all Navy Officers and the Marines are all enlisted with the Sergeant Major (equivalent to a Master Chief or E-9) being the highest although at the beginning of Halo 2 he is wearing a Navy officer stripes on his sleeves. Well that is your military knowledge of the day. I guess I could be your "Technical Advisor" on all things Navy and USMC. Got to go and keep playing. NCIchiban |

Wow, so how is it in Afghanistan? Is it hot and boring? lol. What exactly do you guys do?
Golden Eye was amazing, but I lovvee Halo. We play somethin like that called SWAT. No shields, sometimes magnums, sometimes BR's, sometimes shotguns. Its by far my favorite game type. The rockets are weird, I've had it so I hit the wall right next to someone with a rocket, and I go to re-load, thinking theyre dead, and somehow they live and end up killing me, but most the time the rockets do the job, lol. What made you choose to be in the Navy? I dunno if I could do it. Just after watchin some movies about the war in Iraq, even the fake ones..like Jarhead (A movie about a bunch of snipers in Iraq for over 6 months, doing nothing). I would go crazy over there.

Afghanistan
It was real hot when we first got here (late July). It has since started to cool down and since we are almost a mile up and shielded by Mountains, we haven't gotten much rain (until yesterday!). We had 1/2" hail and rain just flooded out of the sky with no warning. So now we are officially in the rainy season. Lots of dust and not much to do.
Since everyone that I play Halo with schedules are skewed, we haven't played in almost 3 weeks! As for the Navy...It was a conscientious decision I made over 14 years ago. I enlisted into the Navy's Nuclear Power Program and regretted it from day one. I did it for a girlfriend because she was in town and the Navy was conveniently in town as well. I had the good fortune of going to Basic Training in Orlando, FL (since closed) and then Nuke school. My girlfriend at the time was going to Central Florida University so it was convenient, until she dumped me. I have since moved onto bigger and better things. Some would call me a Master of Propoganda (I am after all a Navy Counselor and former Recruiter), but I like to open people's eyes to what they can be doing. There are too many that get disillusioned with the Navy, but that is because they get in with bad crowds. The military more than ever is a direct reflection of society. The things you do for fun, we do as well (with the exception of drug use which I am not saying you do). The people that make up the Navy come from all facets of the country and Nation as a whole. The ghetto, rural area (country), suburbs, city, etc. We even have non-citizens serving. But I have found the ones that truly appreciate the Navy are the ones that have worked jobs on the outside and seen how rough it is. We get steady paychecks twice a month (1st and 15th). We travel. I did 3 years in Japan, 2 years in Guam, and I have been all over the Pacific. Who else can say they got a paying job that allowed them to travel like this? Ships aren't anything to be afraid of either. I would prefer to be on a ship right now as opposed to sleeping in a wooden hut in the desert on top of the mountains a mile high. Ships are air conditioned, self sufficient monsters of war. They even make their own water. I am not trying to sell the Navy to you, but I want you to understand that it takes a different type of person to understand and accept military life. I honestly think there is nothing better for a young single person to do than enlist for four years of service. Not as free as a college student, but we earn pay and still get to party. Life is normally like a 7-4 job (unless deployed). I currently work from 0900-2100 everyday except Saturdays. Everyone else gets every 6th day off. So, what do you do on your off time? We play Halo or email or take college classes. We work out, we play cards, we play dominoes. We are people just like you. We have just decided to commit to serving the United States and its interests. Whether we agree with those interests or not is moot. We signed a contract and we are obligated. There are many benefits that people tend to overlook. The military is the only job where you can retire after 20 years of service. I would be 38 if I chose to retire. But for me the Navy has been good. I can see doing 30 years because the job is rewarding personally and I enjoy it. By no means is it for everybody. But I have seen many grow from the experience more so than any other means. Well I hope that satisfied your curiosity. I can't speak of the mission here or what we do. Some terrorist could be reading this post as you are reading it. So, what I write will have to do. I can say this, carrying a gun with you everywhere is overrated. I can't wait to turn my weapon in.
